Jura 10 Year Old is a single malt from the distillery on the Isle of Jura in Scotland's Inner Hebrides, bottled at 40% ABV in a 75cl bottle. The distillery dates to 1810.
The whisky spends ten years in ex-bourbon barrels of American white oak, then a finishing period in Oloroso sherry butts from Jerez. It is distilled in copper pot stills that stand 28 feet tall, and carries only a faint hint of smoke.
Tasters describe smoked apricot, toffee, dried apple, cherry and pecan on the nose. The palate brings caramel, roasted nuts, subtle spice, sea salt and oak, with vanilla and golden raisins. The finish fades slowly through peat, cocoa and earthy malt.
