Kaiyō The Ramu is an 8 year old Japanese whisky from Kaiyō Whisky, part of the limited-edition Wood Library Series. It is bottled at 46% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
The whisky matured for six years in Japanese Mizunara oak, then spent a further two years finishing in ex-Rhum J.M agricole casks from Martinique. The brand's ocean maturation is also said to shape its character.
The nose brings vanilla, toasted coconut, caramel, gentle oak spice and hints of tropical fruit. The palate offers honey, butterscotch, roasted nuts, dried fruit and soft baking spices. The finish is long and warm, with oak, sweet malt and delicate smoke.
