This is an Irish blended malt from Killowen, the first of two Dalriadan releases, bottled at a cask strength of 57.5% in a 50cl bottle. Both parts are 11 years old, drawn from Northern Ireland and Islay. Only 386 bottles were filled.
Forty per cent is double-distilled peated malt matured entirely in ex-bourbon hogsheads. The other 60% is an 11 year old malt from a County Antrim distillery, finished for three years in Oloroso butts. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring.
The nose opens with fruit-salad sweets, then apricot, lemon and pineapple, with Atlantic peat fire behind. The palate suggests crumbly Wensleydale with dried apricot, lemon and blueberry. The finish brings cigar leaf, powdery texture, peat smoke and herbs.
