Lagavulin 8 Year Old is a single malt from the distillery on the southern shore of Islay, built in 1816. The house style is heavily peated, with strong iodine overtones.
The nose brings salted popcorn, honey-roasted nuts, tarry rope and fresh-cut cedar, with a lingering touch of burnt sugar. Smoky peat leads on the palate, followed by coriander seed, barley sugar, cumin, smoked kipper and marzipan, then apple crumble, toasted almond and ash. Cooking spices return at the very end.
