A peated single malt Scotch from Lagg Distillery, which opened in 2019 at the southern tip of the Isle of Arran. It is part of a limited small batch series, made with barley peated to 50ppm.
The whisky was matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels, then finished for six months in Palo Cortado sherry casks. It is bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.2% ABV.
The nose combines roasted hazelnuts and peat smoke with caramelised figs, dried orange peel and a hint of balsamic. Raisins and toffee lead on the palate, followed by bonfire smoke and black pepper. The finish is long and warming, with roasted nuts, wood smoke and dark chocolate.
