Laphroaig – Elements 1.0 Limited Release (58.6%)

Elements 1.0 is the first release in Laphroaig's Elements series, a single malt made from 100% Islay malt and bottled at 58.6% ABV. It was launched in October 2023. It differs from the distillery's usual practice in using a 50/50 mix of cloudy and semi-cloudy wort, after a 55-hour fermentation. Both an 8.5-tonne and an 11-tonne mash were used. The packaging draws on sketches from the distillery's expansion plans of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The nose is fresh sea salt and smoky bacon, with strawberry jam, charred pineapple and campfire ash. The palate is spicy and peppery, with tropical fruit, clove and liquorice. The finish is warming and smoky, both sweet and drying.
