Laphroaig – Elements 2.0 (59.6%)

Laphroaig Elements 2.0 is an Islay single malt from the distillery's experimental Elements Series, released in 2024. This expression looks at fermentation time rather than cask maturation as a way to shape flavour. Laphroaig's usual fermentation is around 55 hours. For this release the distillery tried several longer periods, reaching up to 115 hours, which brought more fruit and tropical notes alongside the peaty smoke. It matured entirely in first-fill Bourbon barrels and was bottled at a cask strength of 59.6%. The nose has stewed apples, vanilla custard and orange peel with coastal notes and peat smoke. On the palate come green apples, honey and cream soda, with bonfire embers and smoked seafood. The finish turns from sweetness to lingering, warming smoke.
