Laphroaig – Elements L1.0 (70cl, 58.6%)

Laphroaig Elements L1.0 is an experimental single cask Islay single malt at 58.6%, in a 70cl bottle. It comes from experiments with mashing and fermentation. Two kinds of wort, made in old-style and new mash tuns, were used, and the label says the tropical fruit in the finished whisky is more prominent while the phenolic and maritime character of Laphroaig remains. The nose is described as smoky bacon, woody campfire embers and a hint of charred strawberry and pineapple. The palate turns spicy and peppery, with tropical fruit and liquorice, leading to a long, warming finish of smoke and peat.
