Laphroaig – Select 200 Years Anniversary Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (70cl, 40%)

This Laphroaig Select was released to mark the 200th anniversary of the Laphroaig Distillery on Islay. It is bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. The whisky is matured in first-fill ex-bourbon quarter casks, Pedro Ximenez sherry hogsheads and Triple Wood European oak casks. The heart of the spirit comes from whisky given a final maturation of about six months in new American oak casks, placed in the highest parts of the warehouse to make the most of the Scottish summer. New oak is quite unusual for Scotch maturation. The nose has forward peat smoke followed by ripe red fruits. The palate is sweet at first, then peat smoke with touches of ash and seaweed. The finish is long, with lingering floral notes, marzipan and lime.
