A new edition of Leapfrog, a peated Islay single malt from Laphroaig, distilled in 2011. It matured first in ex-bourbon barrels and was then finished in first-fill bourbon barrels, so the whole cask sequence stays with bourbon wood. Murray McDavid bottled 687 bottles in autumn 2025 at 54.4%, non-chill-filtered and without added colour.
The name refers to the 'McDavid vs. McGoliath' story from the early days of Murray McDavid, around 25 years ago.
The nose offers citrus oils, light smoke and salted butter with sweet vanilla and creamy caramel. On the palate, lively embers, lemon sweets and chilli meet soft cream toffee. The finish is oily and peaty, with sweet charcoal and pineapple, and a soft vanilla note that lasts.
