Ledaig is the name given to the heavily peated single malt from Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull, founded in 1798. This bottling was distilled in 2012 and matured for 9 years entirely in French Bordeaux red wine casks.
It is bottled at 56.8% without chill-filtration or added colour, and shows a deep copper-rose hue.
The nose is smoky, with bonfire peat, ash and medicinal sea air against red berry compote, dark cherries and oak tannins. The palate is full-bodied and oily, with smoked meats, peat and charred wood alongside plum, blackcurrant, dark chocolate and baking spices. The finish is long and dry, with peat smoke, red wine spice and salty sea spray.
