Living Souls Williamson 13 Year Old (70cl, 46%)

A 13 year old peated blended malt from the independent bottler Living Souls, matured in a refill bourbon barrel and bottled at 46% ABV. Williamson is the traditional name for Laphroaig with a small teaspoonful of another distillery's malt added, often reported to be Bowmore, so that it cannot be labelled a single malt. The nose brings coastal brine, sea salt, heavy driftwood smoke, smoked almonds and bright lemon with a trace of medicinal iodine. The palate is peat smoke meeting flamed orange, with anise, cinnamon and white pepper warmth. The finish is long and salty, with salted lemon, ginger and a light chilli warmth.
