Loch Dhu, Gaelic for Black Lake, is a 10 year old whisky nicknamed The Black Whisky. It was distilled at Mannochmore in Speyside, released in the late 1990s and bottled at 40%.
Its near-opaque black colour comes from a heavy addition of spirit caramel. It was matured in charred oak.
The nose brings espresso, treacle toffee, coffee cake, burnt prunes and raisins, with Worcestershire sauce and soy. The palate is oily, with burnt toast, bitter coffee, black liquorice and balsamic. The finish is short and drying, with charred oak.
