Loch Lomond – The Nine 2010 1st Fill Bordeaux Red Wine Hogshead (Cask 1/6) (70cl, 55%)

A single cask Loch Lomond from The Nine series, distilled in 2010. It was matured first in a refill American oak hogshead, then finished in a first-fill Bordeaux red wine hogshead, a cask used for the first time for whisky maturation. This edition is labelled Cask 1/6. The unpeated spirit is made in the Inchfad style in swan neck pot stills, and the whisky is bottled at 55% in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtering or added colour. The nose recalls blackcurrant juice, orange and nectarine. The palate is full, with citrus and sweet maple sugar, then toffee and apple, and liquorice leading on. The finish is long, with lingering fruit and a light spice.
