Lochside – 24 Year Old 1981 Lombard Jewels of Scotland Single Cask #612 (2005) (70cl, 50%)

A single cask Lochside from the Highlands, distilled in 1981 and bottled in 2005 at 24 years old for Lombard's Jewels of Scotland range. Cask 612 gave 258 bottles at 50% ABV, and this is bottle number 38, in a 70cl bottle. The distillery at Montrose was demolished in 2005. Its building stood apart from the local architecture, modelled on a traditional German brewhouse, which suited a site that began life as a brewery in 1786. The nose is smoky with hints of toffee. The palate is slippery-smooth with a sugary rush, big and rich, and the finish is hot and fruity.
