Long John Special Reserve is a blended Scotch whisky made with Highland, Island and Strathclyde whiskies. This bottle dates from the 1970s and is marked 70 Proof, at 35% ABV, in a 757ml bottle. The brand is named after 'Long John' Macdonald, said to have been a notorious bootlegger who took out a licence for Ben Nevis distillery, near Fort William, in 1825. Ben Nevis malt was supposedly a key ingredient, though the core of the blend later became Tormore, which began distilling in 1961. The blend is said to contain 48 different malts. It is usually described as light and cereal in character, with a distinct sweetness and a short finish.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
