Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur is produced by Luxardo in Padova, Italy, founded in 1821. It is made from sour Marasca cherries, including skins, pits and stems, macerated and distilled, then rested and blended in oak vats. It is bottled at approximately 32-38% ABV, depending on market.
The nose has crisp cherry character, almond and cherry-stone bitterness, a light herbal lift and subtle wood and vanilla from resting. The palate is medium-bodied, with bright cherry flavour, bitter almond, dried cherry fruit and gentle woody undertones. The finish is dryish for a liqueur, with lingering cherry kernel bitterness, a hint of marzipan and a clean almond-nut after-taste.
