This is the 2024 edition of Macallan's 18 year old Double Cask, a Speyside single malt bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky spent 18 years in a combination of American oak and sherry-seasoned European oak casks from Jerez. The Double Cask approach pairs the vanilla sweetness of American oak with the richer character of the European wood.
The nose offers butterscotch, candied orange peel, vanilla custard, sultanas and ginger. On the palate come dried fruits, ginger, cinnamon, chocolate, raisins and caramelised figs, with vanilla and a little citrus. The finish is long and warming, ending in woody dryness.
