Macallan – Oscuro The 1824 Collection (46.5%)

Macallan Oscuro is a single malt in The 1824 Collection, bottled at 46.5% ABV. Oscuro is Spanish for dark, a reference to both the deep colour and the dark flavour profile of the whisky. It was put together from first-fill Spanish oak sherry casks, mostly Oloroso, with some casks coming from older stocks that date from before the millennium. The deep mahogany colour comes entirely from maturation, with no added colouring. On the nose there are dried figs, plums and raisins, dark chocolate, roasted almonds, cinnamon and clove, with orange peel and soft vanilla. The palate is silky and full, with sherry, candied orange, honey toffee, nutmeg and ginger. The finish is long and warm, with sherry, cocoa and sweet spice.
