This is a Christmas 2023 bottling of Macduff, a Speyside single malt distilled in 2002 and matured for 21 years in a Spanish oak Oloroso sherry butt. It is bottled at 46% ABV in a 70cl bottle, with natural colour and without chill-filtration.
Just 452 bottles were filled from the butt.
The nose is creamy, with honeyed porridge, butterscotch and barley, then sugared almond, dried apples, sultanas and a hint of leather. The palate is soft and sweet, with candy floss, Madeleines, honeyed prunes, vanilla, fudge and toffee apple. The finish carries caramel, poached orchard fruits and cakey spice, with nutmeg warmth from old oak.
