The 2021 release of Komagatake, the annual single malt from the Mars Shinshu Distillery in Miyada-mura, Nagano. It is made from 100% malted barley at what is described as Japan's highest-altitude distillery, at about 798 metres.
The whisky was matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry American oak barrels and is bottled at 48% ABV, non-chill filtered, in a 750ml bottle.
Tasting notes give prunes, honey, vanilla and tropical fruits on the nose. The palate turns to sweet oranges, green melon and dusty cocoa powder, and the finish is long and smooth, with vanilla and persimmon.
