Meletti Anisetta (75cl, 34%)

This is an anisetta from Meletti, a liqueur flavoured mainly with green anise. Silvio Meletti began producing it in 1870. It is bottled at 34% vol in a 75cl bottle. The anise seeds are macerated in alcohol distilled from grape pressing residue, and the release of essential oils gives the liqueur its character. It then rests for six months in steel barrels, leaving it clear, with an intense, pungent aroma. In Ascoli it is traditionally drunk 'with the fly', with a few roasted coffee beans added to the glass.
