The 2025 release of Shenk's Homestead, part of the Michter's Legacy Series and named for founder John Shenk. It is a rye-forward Kentucky sour mash whiskey, bottled at 45.6% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It is not classed as a bourbon or a rye.
The whiskey is partly finished in toasted, uncharred French oak barrels from the Vosges region, air-seasoned for 24 months.
The nose offers toasted sugar, honey and warm baking spice. On the palate are toffee, nougat, dried fruit and baked sugar with rye warmth, full and creamy in the middle. The finish is long, with cinnamon and herbal rye.
