Michter's US*1 Small Batch Original Sour Mash is an American whiskey that was the distillery's most popular product during the 1970s and 1980s. The name refers to the sour mash method, in which some previously fermented mash starts the next fermentation, much as with sourdough bread. It is noted for its taste and its unusual grain selection, and it cannot really be classed as either a rye or a bourbon.
