Michter's US-1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey from Michter's Distillery in Louisville, in a 750ml bottle. This is the 2017 First Release, the first rye edition of the Toasted Barrel programme, which began with a bourbon in 2014. The whiskey is given a second finish in a toasted barrel, a step meant to caramelise deeper wood compounds and add vanilla, maple and toasted grain character. Here it is applied to a rye base, which is spicier and more grain-forward than bourbon.
