This is a 23 year old Speyside single malt from Mortlach, distilled in 1997 and bottled in 2020 by Wilson & Morgan at 56% ABV. It comes in a 70cl bottle with a box.
After its main maturation it spent over 7 years finishing in a first-fill Oloroso sherry butt, chosen because the full, spicy, intense character of the distillery suits sherry casks.
The nose is dark, nutty and dry, in a classic dry sherry style. The palate is drier and nuttier still, peppery and spicy, malty and chewy, with toasted, meaty notes and a hint of leather. Medicinal herbs and liquorice come through, and sour red cherries keep it fresh.
