Mortlach 2023 Special Release is a single malt from Speyside, part of Diageo's 2023 Special Releases and bottled at 58.4% ABV in a 70cl bottle. Mortlach is known as The Beast of Dufftown.
The whisky is made through the distillery's 2.81 distillation and matured in a combination of first-fill Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry-seasoned casks.
The nose brings dark toffee, stewed plums and leather, then roasted coffee and a little savoury smoke. On the palate are dark chocolate, black cherries and spiced oak, with candied orange and molasses, in a thick, oily texture. The finish is long, with dried fruit, espresso, smoke and oak.
