Mortlach 21 Year Old is the 2020 Special Release from the Speyside distillery, bottled at 56.9% ABV in a run of 7,692 bottles.
The whisky was matured in small batches, then finished in casks seasoned with Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry. Mortlach is known as the Beast of Dufftown for its robust, meaty character.
The nose carries dark dried fruits and savoury, meaty notes. The palate is smooth and sweet, with rich fruit and cured ham building to a lingering, spicy dryness. The finish is long, balancing sweetness and spice before leaving the palate dry.
