This Mortlach was distilled in 1990 and bottled at 25 years old by Chieftain's. It is a Speyside single malt at 46% abv, deep gold in colour.
The nose opens with mushrooms and resinous woods, then burnt molasses and Asian sauces such as teriyaki, followed by roasted chestnuts, cigars, old polished leather and an earthy, savoury depth. The palate is leather and tobacco, old walnuts and bitter chocolate, then chestnut honey, roasted nuts, bitter caramel, cinnamon and cracked pepper. The finish is medium and very dry, with black tea, salty bouillon and more chestnut honey.
