This is Mortlach The Katana's Edge, a 2023 Special Release Speyside single malt in a 70cl bottle at 58% ABV.
Part of the whisky was finished in ex-Kanosuke Japanese whisky casks, drawing on the flavours of Japan, and the rest in ex-Pinot Noir casks, which add balance to the sweetness. It builds on the sweet yet savoury character Mortlach is known for.
The nose is mild and fresh, with ripe melon, pear, leather and spice. The palate is rich and mouth-filling, sweet and gently savoury with a dry spiciness. The finish is long, dry, spicy and warm.
