Mortlach The Katana's Edge is a 2023 Special Release single malt from Speyside, bottled at 58% ABV in a 70cl bottle. Part of the whisky was finished in ex-Kanosuke Japanese whisky casks, inspired by the flavours of Japan and the umami note in Mortlach's sweet yet savoury character. The remainder was finished in ex-pinot noir casks to balance the sweetness.
The nose offers ripe melon and pear, boiled sweets dusted with icing sugar, fruit pastilles, and savoury hints of leather and spice. The palate is rich and mouth-filling, sweet and gently savoury, with a dry spiciness. The finish is long, dry and spicy.
