Murray McDavid Benchmark Deanston 1996 21 Year Old (46%)

This is a 21 year old Deanston from 1996, bottled in 2018 at 46% ABV as part of Murray McDavid's Benchmark range. It is a Highland single malt. The whisky spent almost 20 years in two bourbon casks. It was then finished in a pair of 110 litre Koval bourbon barrels, which added further flavour and gave a powerful, round and distinctly Deanston character. The nose combines toffee, fruit sweets, vanilla and ginger. The palate is full-bodied and very round, with toffee, ginger, dried yellow fruit and a waxy note. The finish is rich and long, with a sweet-bitter lemon edge.
