New Riff 6 Year Malted Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey from New Riff Distilling in Newport, Kentucky, bottled in bond at 50% ABV in a 75cl bottle. The distillery was founded in 2014 by Ken Lewis and does not chill-filter its whiskey.
The mashbill is 100% malted rye, which is rare in American whiskey, and the whiskey spent six years in new charred oak barrels.
The nose offers oatmeal raisin cookies, powdered sugar, peppermint, plum skin and ripe pear. The palate is thick and sweet, with saltwater taffy, baked fruit, cinnamon, wintergreen and clove. The finish is medium to long, led by clove and pink peppercorn, fading to baked pastry.
