New Riff 8 Year is a Kentucky bourbon from the New Riff distillery in Newport, bottled at 50% in a 750ml bottle. It was aged for a minimum of eight years in toasted and charred new American oak.
The mashbill is high in rye, at 65% corn, 30% rye and 5% malted barley. The bourbon combines two distilling seasons, which is why it does not carry a bottled-in-bond designation, and it is bottled without chill filtration.
The nose has dark cherry, caramel, vanilla, cocoa and seasoned oak, with a little orange zest. The palate brings black cherry, baked apple, chocolate and cinnamon, kept in check by rye spice. The finish is long and gently drying, with leathery oak and orange peel.
