New Riff 8 Year Rye is a Kentucky straight rye whiskey from New Riff Distilling in Newport, Kentucky, bottled at 50% ABV in a 75cl bottle without chill filtration.
The mashbill is 95% rye and 5% malted rye, rather than the 5% malted barley found in the well-known MGP recipe. It is distilled on a 36-inch copper column still and matured for eight years in charred new American oak.
The nose brings polished oak, cherry cola, brown sugar and nutmeg. On the palate there is black pepper, clove and spearmint, then caramelised brown sugar and dark chocolate. The finish is long and drying, with oak tannins and wintergreen.
