New Riff Barrel Proof is a Kentucky straight bourbon from New Riff Distilling in Newport, bottled uncut and non-chill-filtered at whatever strength the barrel gives, typically 51 to 55% ABV, in a 750ml bottle.
The mashbill is 65% corn, 30% rye and 5% malted barley, all non-GMO. It matured for at least four years in toasted and charred new American oak barrels, so each batch differs a little in strength and flavour.
The nose offers butterscotch, fresh oak, vanilla, almond and rye spice. On the palate are vanilla, caramel, clove, cinnamon and dark berries, with roasted peanut and orange peel. The finish is long and rye-driven, with red and black fruits and white pepper.
