New Riff Malted Rye Sherry Finish is a Kentucky rye whiskey made from 100% malted rye and bottled at cask strength, 55.95%, in a 750ml bottle. It is non-chill-filtered.
The base spirit is a five-year-old whiskey from New Riff Distilling in Newport. It then spent about a year in custom-made 53-gallon Spanish sherry casks, was vatted in autumn 2021 and bottled in spring 2022 without any reduction in strength.
The nose shows raisin, fig, toasted grain and walnut. On the palate come cherry, raspberry jam and powdered sugar, then malted rye spice with cocoa. The finish is medium to long, with rye spice, soft oak and a last echo of dark fruit.
