Nikka – From the Barrel (50cl, 51.4%)

Nikka From the Barrel is a Japanese blended whisky made from Miyagikyo and Yoichi single malts together with a grain whisky. It is bottled at 51.4% in a 50cl bottle, a strength meant to recall a sample drawn straight from the cask. The blend goes through a 'marriage' process, which, together with the complex mix and the higher strength, gives it its character. Copper in colour, it has a floral, fruity nose with spice and a hint of leather. The palate is powerful and solid, with ripe peaches and caramelised apple, and the long finish is reminiscent of a coastline.
