A blended malt from Nikka, called pure malt by the brand, combining whisky from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. The rich, fruity Miyagikyo is set against the smoky, spicy Yoichi. The range is named in honour of Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka.
This older bottling is reported to contain a higher proportion of Miyagikyo single malt, which adds sherry wood influence, and may be a vatting of somewhat older whisky.
The nose is rich with chocolate, orange liqueur, spice and sherry-soaked raisins. The palate is spicy, with chocolate, honeycomb and black cherry, and the finish is sweet and spicy with orange truffles.
