North British 2007/2022 14 Year Old 1st Fill Koval Oat Cask - Murray McDavid (70cl, 46%)

A 14 year old single grain from North British, bottled by Murray McDavid as part of its Select Grain series. It was distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2022, in an edition of 849 bottles that is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. After its first maturation in Bourbon hogsheads, the whisky spent two and a half years in first-fill Koval oat casks. These came from the Koval Distillery in Chicago, where they had held American oat whiskey, and were chosen to add creaminess to the grain whisky. The nose offers creamy vanilla, fresh pastry and oak. The palate is oily with cereal notes, milky coffee and a touch of citrus. The finish stays soft, with sweetness and spice.
