North British – 30 Year Old 1988 Thompson Brothers (70cl, 51.7%)

This is a 30 year old single grain whisky from North British Distillery, bottled by Thompson Brothers in a 70cl bottle. It was distilled in 1988 and matured in a refill barrel. It is bottled at a cask strength of 51.7% abv, without chill filtration or artificial colouring. The outturn was 311 bottles. The nose is banana milkshake over porridge, with sawdust, dried apricots and a few roasted coffee beans. The palate brings buttery pastries with sultanas and chocolate syrup, and a floral sweetness behind. The finish is medium to long, with drying oak spice, crème pâtissière, vanilla and crème brûlée.
