Old Potrero – California Cellar Series #04 Rye Whiskey Finished in Almanac Beer Barrels (70cl, 57.5%)

This is a cask-strength rye from Old Potrero, released in 2025 as number four in its Cellar Series. It is made from 100% malted rye, distilled in copper pot stills by Hotaling & Co. in San Francisco, and bottled at 57.5% in a 70cl bottle. The rye spent 6 years and 6 months in new charred American oak, then a further 5 months in Old Potrero barrels that had held an imperial stout brewed by Almanac Beer Co. for this collaboration. The stout had spent 8 months in those barrels. The whisky is 6 years and 11 months old in total. The notes describe deep malt, dark cocoa, espresso and roasted barley set over rye spice, vanilla, toasted oak and dried fruit, with a long, warming finish.
