Old Pulteney – 1989 Vintage (70cl, 46%)

This is a limited edition 1989 Vintage from Old Pulteney, the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It is lightly peated. It was matured in ex-bourbon casks and then finished in casks that previously held peated Islay whisky. It was named best single malt in the world at the 2016 World Whisky Awards. The nose offers ripe apples, dried apricots and cinnamon, with a hint of sea breeze and brine. On the palate it is dark and peaty with a spicy undertone, alongside vanilla custard, toffee and a touch of coconut. The finish is long and warm, with spiced caramel and gentle smoke.
