Ondjaba Rum Cask Finish – The Namibian Whiskey (70cl, 51%)

Ondjaba is a Namibian triple grain whiskey made at the Erongo Mountain Winery. It is based on local cereals such as mahangu, and the grain is kilned over burning elephant dung, which takes the place of peat. After distillation it matured in virgin oak and refill casks, then received a finish in rum casks. It is bottled at 51% in a 70cl bottle, unfiltered and without added colour, and shows a deep terracotta in the glass. The nose is ripe, spicy smoke with dark cherries, blackberries and vanilla. On the palate there are red fruits and creamy caramel, with cinnamon and sandalwood from the rum casks, leading to a long, chocolatey finish.
