Pere Magloire VSOP is a Calvados from the Pays d'Auge in Normandy, made by a house established in 1821 at Pont-l'Eveque.
It is made from a blend of bitter, bittersweet and sharp cider apples, fermented into cider, distilled and matured in French oak for at least four years, with older eaux-de-vie blended in for depth. The oak gives it a warm amber colour and a rounder texture.
Baked apple and apple butter lead on the nose, with dried apricot, toffee, vanilla and cinnamon. The palate is rounded and warming, with cooked apple, honey, caramel, nutmeg and gentle oak tannin. The finish is medium to long, smooth and slightly sweet, with apple, warm spice and toasted oak.
