Port Askaig 8 Years Old is an Islay single malt bottled by Elixir Distillers at 45.8%, non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring. The name comes from the harbour village on the island's north-east coast.
It matured in a mix of casks: bourbon, toasted American oak, sherry and refill hogsheads.
The nose has charcoal smoke, lemon oil and pine, with barley malt, vanilla, gingerbread and tarred rope. On the palate are heather honey, roasted malt, grilled grapefruit and ginger, with peat smoke and pepper. The finish is long and warming, with peat, sea salt and black pepper.
