Port Askaig Cask Strength Small Batch #02 is an Islay single malt bottled at 59.1% ABV, from a vatting of no more than 60 casks. It is the 2024 edition of a range from Elixir Distillers.
The casks are mostly PX and Oloroso sherry, making up 62% of the batch, with 36% refill butts and hogsheads and a small share of bourbon casks. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring.
The nose brings lemon and grilled sausage, then espresso, liquorice and dark chocolate, with peat smoke and pepper behind. On the palate, peat smoke and toffee meet bitter citrus peel, ginger and star anise, with a medicinal Islay edge. The finish is long, with cocoa nibs and salty coal smoke.
