Port Askaig Sherry Cask (50.5%)

This is an Islay single malt bottled at 50.5%, matured entirely in Oloroso sherry butts. It sets the region's salty peat smoke against dark sherry character. It is made in small batches, with around 20 sherry casks used at a time. It is non-chill-filtered. The nose opens with concentrated peat smoke, smoked plum and dark berries, followed by orange peel, liquorice and dark chocolate. On the palate there is dark chocolate, sweet cherry, blackberry and black pepper beside the peat. The finish is long, with cocoa, dried berries and spice, ending dry with a touch of mint.
