This is a heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich distillery, released under the Port Charlotte name as SYC:01. It was distilled in 2013 and bottled at cask strength, around 55% ABV, without chill filtration or added colour.
The whisky matured in first-fill bourbon casks, sherry casks and French wine casks. The barley was peated to around 40 ppm.
The nose combines peat smoke, ash, honey and lemon peel, with dried fruit, vanilla, light coconut and sea salt. The palate is powerful and creamy, with caramel, orange, smoked honey, spicy oak and dark chocolate. The finish is long and warming, with smoke, pepper, malt and a hint of citrus.
