Port Ellen – 1982 Eidolon 40 Year Old Release 2 (56.5%)

This is a 40 year old Port Ellen from Islay, distilled in 1982 and issued as the second release in the Eidolon series. It is bottled at a natural cask strength of 56.5%, without artificial colouring or chill filtration, in an edition of 403 bottles. The colour is deep amber, and the nose shows clear sherry cask influence, with red fruit, cocoa, cherry, pecan, caramel and sweet pipe tobacco. On the palate there is dark chocolate, espresso, citrus, polished wood and Islay peat smoke. Water brings out herbal notes and a freshness of sea air and oysters. The finish is very long, with old fishing nets, tar, honey, black tea and chocolate almonds.
